What is the #MutualAidThread?

It's Friday once again, so that means it's time for our #MutualAidThread of the week!

If you don't know what that's about, it's one of the Everywhere Accessible projects that has become necessary due to the pandemic. I used to single out individual fundraisers and gofundme requests that had not reached their goals, and baby sat those fundraisers in a thread or a Mutual Aid Movie/Marathon event, posting frequently until the fundraiser reached its goal.

Combining my event marking methodology with my crowdfunding strategy, I was able to achieve an 83% rate, although I couldn't do it often as the method was grueling and often required total focus for 36 to 48 hours.

I still wished to continue this as often as possible, but I could not both vet requesters, and send periodic However, I quickly became overwhelmed with requests, scammers, and abusive users. Without the staff to sort people who simply refused to read my guidelines and application process from scammers oir those I could actually help, I had to suspend the practice.

My health made it too complicated to even give extra help in the form of simple retweets to unvetted people in or adjacent to my community, and for a while I completely stopped the practice.

Until I have more help (in the form of consistent employees, rather than the wonderful batch of volunteer sharers who mostly need extra help themseleves each month or quarter) I've amended my guidelines to reference the once-weekly thread I provide as a place people where can submit requests.

Each week you can find the thread here.

If you'd like to help someone from one of the threads, you can find the guides and rules for our helper/angels here.

And from now on, if you need guidelines or submission instructions, you'll be able to find them here.
